9 PhD positions in the new BTU-DLR-BAM Cooperation [‘skai]-lab
The cooperation [‘skai]-lab on quality control, structural health monitoring and operational safety of additively manufactured components for electrified aero engines combines the various areas of expertise in additive manufacturing (BAM, BTU) and non-destructive testing/structural monitoring (BAM) with the application requirements for novel propulsion concepts and components in aviation (DLR), thereby making an important scientific contribution to sustainable aviation. It is the aim of [‘skai]-lab to train the next generation of interdisciplinary aviation and manufacturing scientists. Working in science, industry and the public sector, the graduates will be well-equipped to play a groundbreaking role in the further development of the aviation economy.
In this first application round, interested persons can apply for the following research topics:
- Impact of manufacturing inaccuracies on performance and lifetime of additively created TPMS heat exchangers (PhD Topic P1)
- Powder degradation in the PBF-LB/M production of aerospace components: Analysis of relevant influencing factors and development of recycling strategies for sustainable powder utilization (PhD Topic P2)
- Continuum-mechanical modelling in physics-informed neural networks for data-driven process optimisation of additively manufactured components (PhD Topic P3)
- A robust approach for structural health monitoring of components for electrified aviation (PhD Topic P4)
- Design process for electrical machines with additively manufactured hollow conductor winding in aircraft engines (PhD Topic P5)
- Analysis, comparison and implementation of fault detection methods for electric machines (PhD topic P6)
- Acoustic signature of additively manufactured electric motor components for structure-integrated condition monitoring (PhD Topic P7)
- Integrated process chain for additive manufacturing of foamed structures with graded properties (PhD Topic P8)
- Development of a process control method for additively manufactured lightweight components for electrified aviation (PhD Topic P9)
[‘skai]-lab is embedded into the large international network of DLR, BAM and BTU, which enables PhD students to undertake (inter-)national research stays in industry, science and the public sector.
The remuneration of the PhD candidates corresponds to the common salary groups at BTU (TV-L E13), DLR (TVöD E13) and BAM (TVöD E13). The working languages of [‘skai]-lab are German and English.
Applicants are expected to have an above-average Master's degree in a relevant discipline (materials science/physics/chemistry/engineering), a high level of interest in aviation, manufacturing and quality control topics, a very good command of English, the ability to work in a team and enthusiasm for the interdisciplinary work of [‘skai]-lab.
