The Medical Faculty Mannheim of Heidelberg University offers the position of

Full Professor (W 3) for 鈥淕eneral Pediatrics鈥� (f/m/d)

to be filled at the earliest possible date.

The successful candidate will be appointed chairperson of the Department of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine at the Children鈥檚 Center of University Medical Center Mannheim.

The successful candidate should have a distinguished record of qualifications and accomplishments in all areas of general pediatrics and adolescent medicine. Regarding patient care, the candidate will provide the highest level of inpatient and outpatient care for patients with the complete spectrum of pediatric diseases. Among other subspecialties, emphasis could be placed on pediatric gastroenterology (endoscopy), pediatric pulmonology (bronchoscopy) and pediatric immunology/infectiology. Close collaboration is required with the other departments of the Children's Center such as the Clinic for Neonatology, the Clinic for Pediatric and Adolescent Surgery and the Center for Pediatric, Adolescent and Reconstructive Urology as well as with the Clinic for Radiology and Nuclear Medicine and the Department for Obstetrics and Gynecology.

On the scientific level, active participation in at least one of the four main research areas (Medical Systems Technologies, Oncology, Translational Neurosciences, Vascular Biology and Medicine) or the two cross-sectional areas (Preventive Medicine and Inflammation Medicine, Immunology and Immunotherapy) of the faculty is expected. In addition, the successful candidate will be responsible for teaching paediatrics and adolescent medicine within MaReCuM, the restructured modular medical curriculum of the faculty.

Prerequisites for application are a completed university degree, a qualified doctorate as well as, according to 搂 47 Abs. 2 Landeshochschulgesetz Baden-W眉rttemberg, a habilitation, a successfully evaluated junior professorship or a comparable scientific qualification as well as board certification in pediatrics and adolescent medicine. In addition, international qualifications in clinical and basic research as well as didactic competence, the ability to lead a department and to collaborate beyond professional boundaries, and commitment to academic self-administration are expected.

The position is available permanently. According to 搂 49 (2a) Landeshochschulgesetz Baden-W眉rttemberg, professors who are responsible for patient care in a university hospital are employed under private law and have tenure immediately. The W 3-professorship for "General Pediatrics" is associated with the management of the Department of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine at the Children's Center of University Medical Center Mannheim. In this regard, a separate contract will be concluded with the Universit盲tsklinikum Mannheim GmbH.
