Full Professorship (W2) for Evolving Imaging and Photography (m/f/d)

Your Profile
We are looking for someone who is eager and capable of navigating the expanding field of (AI-based) image generation in all of its new forms, and also can provide guidance in the practice of camera photography and who brings the sensitivity and experience of artistic practice.
In addition to the desire and willingness to teach in German and English, we also expect relevant professional experience, of which at least two years are professional work with post-photographic image generation, as well as teaching experience (in and out of a university setting).
Exceptional abilities in narrative media, artistic research and writing, and/or coding are highly desirable. The position requires a high level of motivation for ongoing development in these fields.
Optimal would be a person who critically reflects the ethical/societal responsibility of design and the generation of digital imagery, as well as an openness for equality, diversity and who brings intercultural abilities to the mix.
Ideally the candidate is comfortable working in interdisciplinary settings, is well connected in their professional environment, and brings active (and in person) dedication to academic administration tasks.

Your Domain

• Independent teaching and research of foundation, techniques and strategies of post-photographic and photographic image generation; image competence, visual effects, basics of visual culture as well as on the history and theory of photography and image generation.
• Teaching methodological, theoretical and practical aspects of image generation projects in an artistic and/or design context.
• Bachelor and master-level teaching primarily in the Communication Design department, and in some cases in the School of Architecture and Design, and throughout the HTWG.
• The advising of students during their Bachelor鈥檚 thesis and Master鈥檚 thesis work, and during their internships/work placements.
• Managing and further developing the image laboratory/studio
• Active involvement in the ongoing evolution of the department and in international relations.

Other responsibilities include:

• Artistic and/or applied research (funding, publications) and transfer,
• Cooperations with other departments (e. g. Computer Science, Architecture, Humanities) and institutions, as well as contributing to continuing education.
• Writing grant proposals and the acquisition of external (third-party) funding,
• Fulfilling your leadership role in a cooperative responsible manner and
• Teaching in accordance with the HTWG 鈥淭eaching Mission Statement鈥� ()

The position holder shall fulfill the official duties of university teachers pursuant to 搂 46 of Baden-W眉rttemberg鈥檚 State University Act (LHG).

Employment Requirements
These are based on to 搂 47 of Baden-W眉rttemberg鈥檚 State University Act (LHG) and include specifically:

• A degree in arts and design (Master鈥檚 Degree / German 鈥楧iplom鈥� or equivalent)
• Exceptional artistic aptitude in photography, media arts and/or image generation. The search committee expects in your digitally submitted portfolio a collection of post-photographic and photographic work, along with a short written statement on your work methodology.
• A minimum of five years professional experience, with at least three years of non-academic experience.
• A good command of English and German (for non-German candidates within a defined time period, if necessary)
