The Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und ‑prüfung (BAM) is a materials research organization in Germany. Our mission is to ensure safety in technology and chemistry. Your responsibilities include:
The new division is to accelerate the research and development of advanced materials through the integration of Material Acceleration Platforms (MAPs). The task includes the technical and administrative management of Department 6.7 "Materials Synthesis and Design". This includes in particular:
- Strategic, personnel and technical management of the division
- Development, personnel and technical management and motivation of a qualified team of employees
- Initiating and implementing research and development in the field of MAPs and data-driven material synthesis
- Providing impetus for and self-acquisition of third-party funding for research projects
- Conception of topics for young scientists and their supervision within the scope of your research activities
- Participation in the implementation of change processes and proactive involvement in the further development of BAM's subject areas as a manager, particularly in the subject area of materials and in the Nano@BAM and MAPz@BAM competence centers
- Positioning of BAM as a federal research institution through participation in national and international standardisation bodies, advisory boards and scientific networks
- Expansion of existing and initiation of new cooperations with national and international partner institutions
- Successful/outstanding scientific university degree specialising in chemistry, materials science or a comparable field of study and a very good PhD and far-reaching scientific achievements in one of the mentioned disciplines as well as academic achievements beyond this, such as habilitation or habilitation-equivalent achievements.
- Comprehensive, documented experience with the use of MAPs, automation in synthesis and characterization, use of machine learning for the understanding and development of advanced materials and nanomaterials
- Comprehensive experience in the preparation and publication of first author publications and presentation of scientific results in the field of synthesis and characterization as evidenced by a publication record in peer-reviewed journals (e.g. Web of Science reference)
- Comprehensive experience in independently acquiring third-party funding and working on scientific issues
- Several years of experience in the supervision of junior researchers
- Several years of experience in science management are an advantage
- Personnel and technical management experience in scientific and technical areas is an advantage
- Very good knowledge in the field of advanced materials, especially in the synthesis of nanoparticles and porous materials is desirable
- Very good knowledge of Python as well as data and metadata management according to FAIR principles is desirable
- Experience in project management is desirable
- Fluent command of German and English
- Leadership skills
- Team-oriented working style with very good communication skills and a high capacity for reflection
- Strong analytical, conceptual and creative thinking as well as negotiation skills and a high degree of decision-making ability
- High degree of flexibility and resilience
