Katholische Universität ·¡¾±³¦³ó²õ³Ùä³Ù³Ù-Ingolstadt
Junior Professorship of Liturgical Studies
(W1 with tenure track to W2)
to be filled by October 1, 2026.
The appointment is made in either a temporary public service or private law employment relationship according to pay grade W1. The employment contract is initially limited to three years. After successful interim evaluation, it will be extended for another three years. After a successful tenure evaluation and subject to fulfillment of the employment law requirements, the tenure-track professor will be appointed to a permanent professorship in pay grade W2 (public service status).
The KU aims to increase the proportion of female professors and therefore expressly encourages female researchers to apply.
Your responsibilities
You will represent the subject of Liturgical Studies at the Faculty of Theology in both research and teaching, while also considering knowledge transfer (Third Mission). You will contribute to the academic profile of the Faculty through research-intensive publications and projects as well as the acquisition of third-party funding. You should be open to interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary collaboration within and beyond theology, particularly by participating in key research initiatives such as the KU Center for Religion, Church, and Society in Transformation (ZRKG). You will offer high-quality and innovative teaching in all degree programs of the Faculty of Theology. Your teaching portfolio will include courses taught in English and those available to students from other faculties of the University. Supervising students and postgraduates is an integral part of your role at the Faculty, in which you will participate with professional and intercultural competence. You will apply your expertise locally as well as in international contexts. Furthermore, you will assume responsibilities in academic self-administration and the constructive further development of the Faculty’s academic profile, degree programs, and networking.
Your profile
The junior professor must meet the general legal requirements and hold a degree in Catholic Theology (Diplom or Magister, or equivalent degree), must demonstrate pedagogical skills and show a special aptitude for scientific work, which is typically evidenced by an outstanding doctorate in Catholic theology (Dr. theol.) with a focus on liturgical studies. No more than four years should have passed between completing the doctorate and the end of the application deadline (according to Art. 63 (1) sentence 5 et seqq. Bavarian Higher Education Innovation Act (BayHIG)). The date on the doctoral certificate is decisive. Periods spent on childcare and caregiving extend the deadline accordingly. Applicants who have already obtained their doctorate at the Catholic University of ·¡¾±³¦³ó²õ³Ùä³Ù³Ù-Ingolstadt must have changed universities thereafter or been engaged in academic work outside the KU for at least two years.
Further requirements include appropriate research expertise in the field of Liturgical Studies (evidenced by projects or publications beyond the doctoral thesis), teaching skills and didactic aptitude (evidenced by previous university-level teaching experience, positive teaching evaluations, presentations, didactic training, etc.) as well as very good English language skills. Additionally, the ability to position the subject in a way that is amenable to interdisciplinary collaboration in research, teaching, and knowledge transfer (Third Mission) is desired. Initial international experience or cross-disciplinary qualifications (for instance in leadership skills, social competence, etc.) are advantageous.
The KU pursues a policy of intensive student mentoring and therefore expects its teaching staff to spend an appropriate amount of time on campus.
For a professorship appointment, the ecclesiastical Nihil obstat is required according to Concordat regulations.
