PhD Position in Physics: next-generation MINFLUX optical instrumentation (f/m/x)
The Department of Prof. Dr. Stefan W. Hell invites applications for a PhD position at the intersection of optics, molecules and biophysics. Opportunities are available in ³Òö³Ù³Ù¾±²Ô²µ±ð²Ô or Heidelberg for motivated physicists who are interested in working in a world-leading research group. The candidate can apply for admission to the Max Planck School of Photonics or the ³Òö³Ù³Ù¾±²Ô²µ±ð²Ô Graduate Center for Neurosciences, Biophysics, and Molecular Biosciences (GGNB).
The MINFLUX and MINSTED concepts have unlocked the door to minimally invasive, low-light-level analysis of the structure and dynamics of macromolecules at the nanometer scale. This includes experiments at 1‑nm resolution and with Angström measurement precision. The successful candidate will work on next-generation MINFLUX optical instrumentation.
Your Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Physics, Biophysics or similar
- Ability to work independently and within a team
- Attention to detail and high level of critical thinking
- Experience with photonics, fluorescence, imaging or biochemical methods is helpful

Position details
The payment and benefits are based on the wage agreement for public service personnel guidelines (TVöD Bund).
