The KU Faculty of Mathematics and Geography’s research group Mathematics - Scientific Computing at the Mathematical Institute for Machine Learning and Data Science (MIDS) is seeking highly motivated candidates for a full-time position (100%)

Postdoctoral Researcher
with the earliest possible starting date, at the latest, however, on October 1, 2025, on the level of research associate or lecturer (Akademischer Rat auf Zeit) with initial contract duration of 3 years. The aim is to extend the employment contract for another three years after that. The place of work will be Ingolstadt. Provided that the requirements are met, remuneration in the private-law employment relationship will be according to the pay grade E 13 TV-L or A 13 if the requirements under German public service law are met. The possibility of writing a habilitation is provided. The research group Scientific Computing of Prof. Götz Pfander works as part of the MIDS team on the development and mathematical analysis of methods in data science, in particular those based on harmonic and functional analysis. Focus topics include signal processing, information theory, sampling theory and bases of exponentials, time-frequency analysis, phase retrieval, quantization and machine learning. Your tasks- Mathematical research in the realm of the focus area of the group and MIDS as a whole
- Contribution to the current research projects of the group and support in the acquisition of new research projects
- Teaching of courses related to mathematics and Data Science in English, in particular in the context of the Data Science and Mathematics BSc and MSc programs. The ability to teach courses in German is desired.
- Knowledge transfer via publications and participation in conferences
- PhD in mathematics, preferably with a focus on one of the following topics:
- Applied Harmonic Analysis
- Real and functional analysis
- Machine Learning
- Data Science and its applications
- Practical experience in programming is desired
- Good German language skills are not required but desirable as they allow to also teach mathematics courses that are offered in German.
- Possibility to pursue own research agenda
- Possibility to gain teaching experience
