At the Faculty of Economics, Law and Social Sciences of the University of Erfurt intends to appoint to the following Professorship at the earliest possible date:
Professorship in Public Law and Foundations of Law
W2 with career track option W3 (f/m/x)
Re-founded in 1994 as a reform university, the University of Erfurt considers itself as a research-oriented university that is highly committed to international cooperation as well as innovation in teaching and learning, with a special focus on teacher-training programs. With its strong profile in the humanities, cultural studies as well as social sciences and education, it is a cosmopolitan place for academic debate on key social and cultural challenges.
The Faculty of Economics, Law and Social Sciences unites the fields of law (public law and private law), social sciences (political science and sociology), economics and public policy. In its specific teaching and research program, these subjects, though differentiated during the 19th and 20th century, are connected again. Considering the requirements of an interdisciplinary perspective on increasingly complex problems, the faculty has pioneered this approach since the early millennium years and has since become firmly established in Germany‘s university landscape.
Area of Responsibility
The professorship represents the Public Law and Foundations of Law in research and teaching. The holder of the position should represent the above-mentioned fields of public law in research and teaching at the Faculty of Economics, Law and Social Sciences, in particular in the subjects of modern legal history and theory of law. The Faculty takes an interdisciplinary approach to its subjects. The holder of the position is expected to contribute to teaching in the courses of the Faculty, some of which are taught in English.
In addition, the tasks are specified in Section 83 of the Thuringian Higher Education Act (ThürHG).
What we expect
In addition to the general requirements under civil service law, the employment requirements pursuant to Section 84 ThürHG must be fulfilled. These include in particular a completed university degree, pedagogical competence, a qualified doctorate and a record of excellent research contributions as well as teaching experience in the above-mentioned areas, especially constitutional and administrative law, if possible also with international and European dimensions or constitutional-historical references, proven experience in the acquisition of third-party funding and postdoctorate Habilitation or habilitation equivalent achievements. Special emphasis is placed on the ability to link research and teaching to the other fields of study of the Faculty of Economics, Law and Social Sciences. The successful candidate is further expected to have a good command of both written and spoken German (reading and listening skills at CEFR level B2, writing and speaking skills at level B1).
The University of Erfurt requires great commitment to teaching as well as a willingness to participate in academic self-administration.
What we offer
The University of Erfurt has been audited as a "family-friendly university". It promotes the compatibility of career and family/private life and supports dual-career options. For academic managers, it offers various further training opportunities as well as individual coaching and mentoring as part of academic personnel development (). There are also a number of health and prevention programs as part of occupational health management.
