Biodiversity and Citizen Science

• Quantitative analyses, empirical work and conceptual synthesis in the fields of biodiversity and biodiversity restoration, citizen science and links to human health
• Collaboration with the ongoing citizen science projects in the department, such as FLOW on freshwater monitoring and VielFalterGarten/​​Urban Nature Plans UNP+ on butterflies and urban ecology
• Application of statistical approaches to data integration and systematic evaluation of heterogeneous biodiversity and health data
• Active collaboration with natural history societies, museums, state agencies, citizen science projects and other stakeholders at local, national and international level
• Attraction of third-party project funding
• Supervision of BSc and MSc students
• Publication of results in international peer reviewed journals and presentation at conferences

• Completed MSc, and ideally PhD in biology, ecology or related fields with a clear focus on biodiversity with experience in quantitative analysis and/or spatial data management
• Experience in interdisciplinary research; a publication record in the fields of biodiversity or citizen science desirable
• Particular strengths in quantitative, statistical biodiversity analyses
• Experience in database management, scientific programming (R) and data visualization essential
• Experience in transdisciplinary collaboration with stakeholders from NGOs, natural history societies, museums and public agencies as well as in organizing workshops and conducting surveys
• Experience in third-party project acquisition, project management and successful implementation desirable
• Excellent team player, friendly and professional demeanor
• Fluency in spoken and written English and German

• Willingness to travel for fieldwork
