The Department of Social Work, Health and Media has a particularly strong research focus together with an interdisciplinary and practical orientation and offers a broad spectrum of undergraduate Bachelor’s and consecutive Master's study programmes.
Your new challenge
- You will be responsible for teaching, continuing education and research with a specific application orientation in the following subject areas:
- Interpersonal and organisational processes in occupational contexts from linguistic and communications perspectives
- Stakeholder and participation processes
- Corporate communications
- Communication skills in negotiations
- Professional ethics in professional communication
- Classic project management and agile working methods plus frameworks/methods (e.g. SCRUM)
- Foundations of economics for linguistic and communication services
- As far as content is concerned, your focus lies on internal organisational communication and the specifics of service provision in the field of language and communication professions. You will play an active part in the teaching on the Bachelor’s study programme in Language and Communication in Organisations as well as other study programmes in theoretical, practical and project-type courses. The courses must be offered in both German and English.
- You will be committed to strengthening the specialist profile of the department, will work on an interdisciplinary basis in the context of cross-departmental cooperation and will be involved in the development of the range of international programmes offered in the department.
- Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences is entitled to award doctorates in fields with particular research strength. As a result you will find a research-friendly environment here that will enable you to successfully develop and expand areas of research focus in the fields of applied linguistics, specialised communication studies and related subject areas as well as being involved in our Doctoral Centre for Social, Health and Economic Sciences.
- It goes without saying that you will be committed to technology and knowledge transfer and cooperation with regional and international stakeholders as well as to contributing to the development of the university.
- Moreover, it is important to us that you be involved in academic self-governance.
What you offer
You are a good fit for us if you are enthusiastic about teaching and research activities and you meet the conditions of appointment as set out in § 35 of the Saxony-Anhalt Higher Education Act. For the advertised professorship, these criteria are as follows:
- You will have successfully completed a university degree in Applied Linguistics, Business Psychology or related subjects.
- You will have a particular aptitude for scientific work, which will generally be evidenced by a high-quality, professionally relevant doctorate. Furthermore, you will have published work relevant to the area of the appointment.
- You have in-depth practical experience in project management, ideally in the language services sector.
- You will be able to show evidence of pedagogic experience. You will be able to communicate information in a clear and practically oriented manner, be it face-to-face, online or via hybrid teaching methods / blended learning scenarios. Experience of teaching in universities, in adult, further or continuing education or in-house corporate training will be advantageous. You are capable of delivering your courses in both German and English.
- You are able to demonstrate particular achievements in the application or development of scientific knowledge and methods in the area of the appointment. You will have accomplished these in professional practice of at least three years’ duration outside of the higher education sector.
- Ideally you will have experience in the acquisition of third-party funds and the management of research projects. Equally, international experience is highly desirable.
- You will be able to lead groups of students and teams of colleagues and empathise with the students’ concerns. Through your willingness to work in teams and talent for communication, you will demonstrate your enjoyment of collaborating with students and colleagues in constructive discourse for the good of the university.
- Furthermore, you will be in a position to communicate securely during everyday life at the university.

We also look forward to receiving your application if you will only meet the conditions of appointment in the near future (date of decision by the appointment committee). The face-to-face interviews are planned for approximately 2 months after the application deadline. Provided that the relevant requirements are met (assuming, among other things, that the candidate is under the age of 52) the appointee will be granted temporary civil servant status, otherwise they will be employed on the basis of a temporary employment relationship under private law. As we consider face-to-face teaching and the integration of the university in the region to be very important, we assume that in order to meet the requirements of the professorship you will primarily be based in the region.
