Reference is made to 搂 70 Para. 1 and 4 Hessian Higher Education Act (HessHG) and to the conditions of employment based on 搂 68 HessHG. In case of eligibility, which will be evaluated according to 搂 70 Para. 2 HessHG, a permanent W3 professorship will be offered subsequently. Proficient knowledge of German is expected.
Duties:
You research and teach successfully in one of the fields of human geography. Your research focuses on current spatial issues within the context of sustainable development and social transformation processes. You will conduct your research empirically using a mixed-methods approach. With this profile, the professorship strengthens the link between socio-economic and scientific research and teaching in geography and fits into the strategic cross-sectional dimension of -sustainability- at Justus Liebig University Giessen (JLU).
You contribute to networking and visibility of the faculty within and outside JLU through interdisciplinary and internationally visible research activities. In addition to a regional focus in Germany or Europe, a research focus in the Global South is also desirable. It is expected that you will develop an innovative research profile that can be linked to the other professorships of the Institute of Geography.
Your teaching duties of 8 semester hours per week cover teaching tasks in the degree programmes offered by the geography teaching unit. The focus will be on the Bachelor's degree programme -Geography-, the Master's degree programme -Economic Geography, Mobility and Spatial Development Policy-, the teacher training programmes L3 and L2/L5 -Geography- and the Bachelor's degree programme -Liberal Arts & Sciences- (subject track -Sustainable Development and Digital Transformation-). Participation in the further development of existing and new degree programmes as well as innovative teaching formats is expected.
You are also expected to work in the Giessen Graduate Center for Natural Sciences and Psychology, the Center for International Development and Environmental Research, the Teacher Training Center, and the Center for Sustainable Food Systems. You are also expected to work in the faculty's accent areas.
You furthermore participate in academic self-administration as well as in the transfer and communication of relevant research results to the public.
The integration of gender aspects in teaching is explicitly desired.
Requirements:
A university degree, an outstanding and relevant doctorate, as well as additional academic achievements (proven, for example, by a positively evaluated junior professorship, a habilitation or in the form of relevant peer-reviewed publications) in a current research area of human geography are required. In addition, a corresponding didactic and pedagogical aptitude is required.
Success in the independent acquisition of external funding should be proven.
Your successful research projects should be focused on current spatial issues and you pursue these using a mixed-methods approach. You should also have a visible regional research focus in Germany or Europe and a research approach in the Global South. Based on these activities, you have international contacts. Your willingness to contribute to the further internationalisation of the faculty is desired.
You should also have several years of independent and relevant teaching experience and ideally have already been involved in the development of innovative degree programmes.
In case the candidate exceeds the basic age limit of 50 years, a civil servant appointment under 搂 66 Para. 3 sentences 2 and 3 Hessian Higher Education Act (HessHG) in conjunction with 搂 11 Hessian Career Regulation (HLVO) requires a specific functional interest.
