Within interdisciplinary teams, we undertake forward-looking research, design innovative teaching concepts and actively transfer knowledge into society. As an important research and cooperation partner, the university also shapes regional development strategies. We offer our employees in research, teaching, technology and administration a lively, family-friendly and equal opportunity environment, a lean management structure and diverse opportunities. Join us to invent the future!
In the Faculty of Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Mathematics at the Department of Computer Science the following professorship is to be filled at the earliest possible date:
W2-University Professorship (f/m/d) in Computer Architecture with tenure track to W3
The appointment will be for an initial period of five years as a temporary civil servant. After a successful final evaluation, a lifetime professorship is assured. The aim of the position is to further strengthen the collaboration between the Departments of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering and Information Technology and contribute to the university's profile area "Intelligent Technical Systems".
The Department of Computer Science currently focuses on three strategic research directions: security, data science, and domain-specific computing. To further strengthen these areas, we seek an outstanding researcher in computer architecture with a focus on modeling, design, and implementation of domain-specific computer systems targeting conventional (CMOS) and/or emerging technologies.
Scientific qualifications should be demonstrated by publications in internationally leading conferences and journals in computer architecture, including at least one of the following topics:
- Modeling, design automation and evaluation of domain-specific architectures
- Emerging technologies for domain-specific architectures
- Applications, e.g. to artificial intelligence, network processing, or scientific computing
We expect the ability and willingness to teach courses in Computer Systems in the degree programs of the Department of Computer Science, and in particular contribute to the compulsory courses in the Computer Engineering program that are jointly offered with the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology.
Further, we expect the willingness to participate in academic self-administration, to teach courses in German as well as in English, and to develop digital teaching formats. Candidates should ideally have some experience in obtaining and managing third-party funding, such as DFG projects, and teaching courses relevant to the respective position. Successful candidates will be expected to actively participate in proposals for collaborative and interdisciplinary research projects, and to participate in existing projects and research centers. Paderborn University offers several opportunities for this, such as the Software Innovation Campus Paderborn (SICP) and the Paderborn Center for Parallel Computing (PC²). There are also opportunities for cooperation with the Heinz Nixdorf Institute (HNI), the Fraunhofer Institute for Mechatronic Systems Design (IEM), and the Fraunhofer Institute for Electronic Nanosystems (ENAS).
With 11 interdisciplinary research institutions and participation in 5 collaborative research centers (4 in spokesperson function), 2 DFG research groups, 8 graduate colleges and 2 DFG priority programs, Paderborn University is the ideal environment for implementing bold research ideas. As the location of a national high-performance computing center, the university offers outstanding computing resources to implement these ideas.
