The partnership of the University of East London in the UK and Unicaf recognises the academic achievement of Nigerian graduates in Lagos /news-and-events/graduation/the-partnership-of-the-university-of-east-london-in-the-uk-and-unicaf-recognises-the-academic-achievement-of-nigerian-graduates-in-lagos/ Tue, 17 Feb 2026 13:17:31 +0000 /?post_type=news-and-events&p=35018 Unicaf scholars from Nigeria who have graduated from the in the UK were invited to a special ceremony for the recognition of their academic achievement at the Oriental hotel in Lagos on the 31st of January.

Professor Paul Marshall, Vice-President (Global Campus) & Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Careers & Enterprise) at the University of East London, praised the fact that Nigerian graduates were able to celebrate their success in their own country, with their families and friends. In his message, Professor Marshall emphasised that the partnership with Unicaf enables students across Africa and beyond to earn British degrees without putting their lives and careers on hold by relocating to the UK. He mentioned the important distinctions earned by the University of East London recently, which was named ‘University of the Year for Teaching Quality’ by the Times and the Sunday Times Good University Guide 2025, and was positioned among the top 40 universities in the UK and the top six in London by the Guardian University Guide 2026.

To the graduates, Professor Marshall said: ‘You have proven that learning does not depend on where you are, but on who you choose to be. Whether you live in Nigeria, or elsewhere across Africa and beyond, you are part of the University of East London community and part of our shared story. Your discipline and your ambition also connects you to a Global Network of graduates, building careers around the world. Through our alumni networks and our growing Global Partnerships we will continue to support you as you take your next steps. As you move forward, hold on to what has brought you here: your curiosity, your courage and your determination to create opportunities, not only for yourself but for others as well!”

Ծ’s Chief Academic Officer, Dr Kevin Andrews, acknowledged the challenges faced by many of the graduates, who have completed their studies while working full time, caring for family members, and handling other responsibilities. Dr Andrews called the event ‘a celebration of resilience’ and underlined that the partnership between Unicaf and the University of East London is built on the belief that talent is found everywhere, but opportunity is not always equally distributed. By making British degrees accessible to committed students across the world, Dr Andrews stated, Unicaf and the University of East London have helped reverse that inequality. Finally, Dr Andrews gave the graduates these words of advice: When we speak about opportunity and international progression, it is important that you understand how to access reliable guidance on your next steps, through the proper university channels. So please do take advantage of the UEL Alumni and Careers Support. Graduates, congratulations. Your degree represents not only what you have learned, but who you have become in the process”.

Osinachi Ibiam-Uro delivered the Vote of Thanks on behalf of all Nigerian graduates of the University of East London through Unicaf. Osinachi expressed gratitude to Unicaf and UEL for providing the opportunity to earn a highly reputable British degree through an innovative online study model, within an environment that values academic excellence, integrity, and innovation. After thanking tutors, lecturers, supervisors and mentors for their guidance, support and high standards, Osinachi turned to fellow graduates: “We come from different backgrounds, cultures, and disciplines, but today we are united by a shared accomplishment. As we step into the next phase of our lives, let us remember the responsibility that comes with this degree. May we use our knowledge ethically, our skills wisely, and our voices courageously. May we strive not just for personal success, but for making a meaningful impact in our communities and the world at large”.

Unicaf University in Zambia celebrates the success of 651 new graduates /news-and-events/alumni/unicaf-university-in-zambia-celebrates-the-success-of-651-new-graduates/ Thu, 06 Nov 2025 08:16:39 +0000 /?post_type=news-and-events&p=34016 In the presence of distinguished guests, including the Chief Justice of the Republic of Zambia, Dr Mumba Malila, academics, families and friends, 651 students received their Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral degree awards at the sixth Graduation Ceremony of in Zambia. The Ceremony, under the theme ‘Shaping Futures through Transformative Global Education’, was held at the impressive grounds of the state-of-the-art Unicaf University campus in Lusaka. The new cohort of graduates come from 57 different countries.

In her address to the graduates, the Vice-Chancellor, Dr Christine Phiri Mushibwe, stated the following: “Ծ’s model uses technology to connect individuals and nations, shaping a global network, ready for the demands of a changing world. Invest your knowledge and integrity into national and global transformation.….. You graduate as global citizens. You have studied with peers from across the world, debated international issues, and engaged with diverse cultures. Such exposure is essential, because the challenges of climate change, inequality, conflict, public health, and artificial intelligence do not stop at borders – and neither should our solutions”.

Speaking about the importance of transformative education, the University’s Chancellor, Professor Mpazi Sinjela, stated: “In developing countries, transformative global education can be a catalyst for change. It can empower individuals, communities, and nations to break cycles of poverty, improve health outcomes, and foster sustainable economic growth. By sharing knowledge, expertise, and resources, we can bridge gaps and create opportunities for marginalized populations”.

The Guest of Honour, Chief Justice Dr Mumba Malila, referred to the importance of education in safeguarding democracy and lawfulness: “A well-educated leadership and electorate help ensure informed debate, sound policy, and respect for the rule of law. As Chief Justice, I can attest that when citizens understand their rights and duties, the wheels of justice turn more smoothly. Abraham Lincoln is often quoted as saying, ‘The philosophy of the school room in one generation will be the philosophy of government in the next’.

The candidates for the conferment degrees were presented to the Chancellor by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research and Innovation, Dr Attridge Mwelwa, the Dean of the School of Business and Management Studies, Dr Mary Mandiringana, the Dean of the School of Education, Humanities and Social Sciences, Dr Pelekelo Kabundula and Dr Clement Mubanga Chela while Dr Daniel Mpolomoka, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor – Academic Affairs, presented the best graduating student in each programme, to receive merit awards.

On behalf of all graduates, Rudolf Henri Rittmann from Namibia, Valedictorian and graduate in the Master of Business Administration – Management Information Systems programme, stepped onto the stage to address his fellow graduates: “From lecture rooms and virtual platforms we have come to this grand celebration today, which marks the culmination of dedication, resilience, and purpose. It is a moment that reflects not only our academic achievement but also the perseverance, discipline, and unwavering spirit. We did not simply complete an academic programme; we have been transformed, we have grown, and we have triumphed. This is the true power of global education and the essence of the Unicaf spirit, that unites us across disciplines, cultures, and continents”.

The 2025 Graduation Ceremony concluded with the dissolution of the Assembly by the Chancellor, a closing prayer and the National Anthem played by the Police Brass Band.
