Founded in 2018, RAPSK is a professional membership association supporting professionals involved in the regulation of Health Products & Technologies (HPTs) in Kenya. Its mandate focuses on regulatory compliance, advocacy for best practice and continuous professional development, with a vision of becoming Kenya’s leading authority in HPTs regulation.

With more than 5,000 members countrywide, RAPSK brings together a significant community of professionals operating within Kenya’s pharmaceutical and broader health-products regulatory ecosystem. The organisation is affiliated with and connected to key industry and professional bodies, including the Pharmaceutical Society of Kenya (PSK), TOPRA, RAPS, the Pharmacy and Poisons Board, and KAPI Kenya.

The partnership will create opportunities for RAPSK members to access relevant higher education programmes offered through Unicaf, while also supporting knowledge exchange and professional development through initiatives such as joint webinars, masterclasses and targeted advisory support.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Dr John Mwangi, Chairman of RAPSK, highlighted the importance of the partnership in supporting regulatory excellence and continuous professional development across Kenya’s health-products sector.

Through the partnership, Unicaf and RAPSK will explore initiatives designed to support the continuing development of professionals in a sector where regulatory knowledge, specialised skills and lifelong learning are increasingly important.

With the motion, ‘This House believes that entrepreneurship is a more realistic solution to youth unemployment than formal employment in developing countries’, the debate provided a valuable platform for students to demonstrate their critical thinking, research, public speaking, argumentation, and teamwork skills, as well as their ability to engage constructively with opposing perspectives, while addressing important pathways to addressing youth unemployment within developing economies.

The competition consisted of two semi-final debates, followed by the Grand Final. Judges from the participating universities assessed each debate, ensuring an objective adjudication process and broad institutional representation. Participants were evaluated based on several criteria, including argument and content, evidence and research, analysis and rebuttal, structure and organisation, delivery and communication, as well as teamwork and coordination.

The Grand Final was contested by DMI University and Exploits University, with both teams presenting strong arguments and demonstrating commendable preparation and confidence. DMI University emerged as the winner however, receiving the first-place prize of MK300,000, while runners-up, Exploits University, received MK200,000. Unicaf University, Malawi took third place, and was awarded MK100,000 in prize money.

The MoU was signed by Ms Chrisphine Juma, KESNNUR National Chairperson, and Ms Winnie Rachael, Unicaf Kenya Country Manager, with the aim of creating greater opportunities for students and novice nurses to pursue further education, enhance their skills and advance their careers, particularly for nurses seeking to transition to new career pathways, specialise in different areas, or obtain additional qualifications to broaden their professional horizons.

Through this partnership, KESNNUR members will have greater access to Unicaf’s uniquely affordable, accessible, and flexible academic offerings and generous scholarship opportunities, enabling them to continue their education by earning internationally recognised degrees together with our partner universities in the UK and Africa, while supporting their professional and academic commitments via our state-of-the-art virtual learning environment. The collaboration will also provide a platform for future engagement through various learning initiatives such as webinars and awareness sessions, further supporting young nurses in achieving their academic and career goals.

The signing of this MoU effectively demonstrates Unicaf and KESNNUR’s shared commitment to empowering the next generation of nurses through education, skills development, and career advancement opportunities, and we look forward to delivering on these pledges in the future, facilitating the greater academic, professional, and personal development of young nurses.

The webinar was led by the Head of Human Resources at Prudential Life Assurance, Mr Ozem Muriuki, who welcomed participants and highlighted the importance of lifelong learning and professional growth in building a skilled, resilient, and future-ready workforce. Following Mr Muriuki’s opening remarks, Unicaf Kenya Country Manager, Ms Winnie Rachael, delivered an address which emphasised the value of the partnership and the critical role of affordable, accessible, and flexible internationally recognised education in supporting further career advancement.

Moreover, Ms Rachael presented an overview of Unicaf’s unique offerings, including its generous scholarship opportunities, wide range of academic programmes offered in collaboration with its partner universities in the UK and Africa, as well as potential avenues for future engagement through professional development and learning initiatives, training workshops, and other similar events.

The partnership strengthens Unicaf University’s commitment to expanding access to flexible, higher education opportunities while reinforcing its presence within Malawi’s tourism and hospitality education sector.

The MoU signing ceremony brought together representatives from both institutions, including Dr Robert Ridley, Vice-Chancellor of Unicaf University, and Dr Wilfred Masebo, Dean of the School of Business and Management. Representing the Malawi Institute of Tourism was its Executive Director, Mrs Patel.

Through this collaboration, Unicaf University and MIT will work together to develop articulation pathways that enable MIT diploma holders to progress towards studies at Unicaf University. The partnership will provide opportunities for learners with existing qualifications in tourism and related fields to enhance their academic credentials and expand their career prospects.

Welcoming remarks were then delivered by Dr Clement Chela, Dean of the School of Health and Applied Sciences, who highlighted the importance of continuous learning and leadership development in today’s rapidly evolving world.

Participants were also given a guided campus tour, led by offering them the opportunity to experience Unicaf University’s modern learning facilities and student-centred environment.

The programme was moderated by Mr Lighton Chitambo, StandOut Leadership Programme Coordinator at YouEngage Foundation, who facilitated the day’s sessions and discussions.

The event featured insightful presentations from distinguished speakers, including keynote speaker Mr Richard Kajokoto, HR Director at PepsiCo – Varun Beverages, who shared valuable perspectives on authentic leadership, professional growth and the importance of lifelong learning. Participants also benefited from an engaging presentation by Mr Jackson Changala, Executive Director of YouEngage Foundation, who encouraged young leaders to embrace purpose-driven leadership and make meaningful contributions to their communities.

The StandOut Leadership Programme was designed to strengthen leadership capacity, inspire both personal and professional growth, and equip participants with practical leadership skills that can be applied in their careers, organisations and communities.
