The agreement marks the beginning of a collaborative effort to broaden access to quality higher education and professional development opportunities for members of Gifted Gems through Unicaf’s scholarship programme.

Under this partnership, members of Gifted Gems will be eligible for generous scholarships, enabling them to pursue internationally recognised degree programmes online through Unicaf’s partner universities in the United Kingdom and Africa.

The MoU was formally signed by Ms Winnie Rachael, Country Manager, Unicaf, Kenya, and  Ms Caroline Ndebu, Executive Director, Gifted Gems, in the presence of key team members from both organisations, including Ms Viona Ogol (Marketing Officer, Unicaf), and Ms Mwende Karutu (Programme Manager, Gifted Gems).

Beyond expanding educational access, the partnership also supports Gifted Gems’ mission to raise awareness about autism and promote inclusivity within communities. Through this collaboration, both organisations aim to create meaningful impact by empowering individuals with knowledge, skills, and opportunities.

The initiative provided students with a practical platform to express ideas, engage audiences, and build confidence beyond the virtual classroom. Recognising that effective communication is a vital competency in today’s academic and professional landscape, the event aimed to strengthen students’ ability to articulate their thoughts clearly while fostering leadership and civic engagement.

Under the theme “Empowering Student Voice for Leadership & Civic Engagement,” the contest showcased a diverse range of perspectives and topics, including civic responsibility, innovation, cybersecurity awareness, and community transformation.

The judging panel comprised Unicaf University staff members Mr John Mtelemuka, Ms Faith Minjale, and Ms Rabeca Mvula, who evaluated participants based on content originality, delivery, structure, stage presence, and overall impact.

The programme commenced with opening remarks by Mr Limbani Mwale, who emphasised the importance of public speaking as a foundational skill for personal and professional growth. Participants were then guided through the competition structure, ensuring transparency and fairness throughout the process.

Following a series of engaging and thought-provoking presentations, the top three participants were recognised for their outstanding performance:

Originally designed as a hands-on digital skills programme, TechHer evolved into a dynamic empowerment session combining motivational speaking, career guidance, peer mentorship, and interactive learning.

A delegation of 12 representatives from Unicaf University led the engagement. The team was headed by Student Affairs Officer, Mr Limbani Mwale and featured Mrs Queen Manthimba Phiri as the lead facilitator. The session engaged approximately 120 Form 4 students.

The programme was structured into three key segments, beginning with a powerful motivational presentation by Mrs Phiri, who shared her personal educational journey and professional experiences. Her message encouraged students to challenge limiting beliefs, embrace resilience, and consider broader career possibilities, including opportunities in technology and other professional sectors.

This was followed by an interactive group session, where students explored various career pathways and reflected on their personal aspirations. Guided by Unicaf University students from disciplines such as Computer Science and Business, participants engaged in meaningful discussions and presented their ideas to their peers, demonstrating a strong understanding of informed decision-making as they prepare for life beyond secondary school.

The interactive workshop provided participants with practical competencies in statistical data analysis using SPSS, covering essential areas such as data entry, data cleaning, descriptive statistics, inferential analysis, and interpretation of results. Led by data analysis expert Mr McDonald Chabwera, with support from Mr Millias Ntchima, the session combined theoretical foundations with hands-on exercises using real-world datasets. This approach enabled participants to apply statistical concepts in practical research and professional contexts.

Structured into a series of presentations and demonstrations, the workshop included:

  • An overview of SPSS concepts and data management techniques;
  • Step-by-step guidance on data entry, cleaning, and descriptive analysis;
