Goethe University Frankfurt am Main invites applications for two positions of
Professor (W2 or W3) in cellular biochemistry
as part of the SCALE Cluster of Excellence – SubCellular Architecture of LifE () at the Faculty of Biochemistry, Chemistry and Pharmacy. This civil servant or public employee position will commence on the 1st of November 2026.
Professorship Profile
The person to be appointed should be particularly involved in the research of the SCALE Cluster of Excellence. SCALE aims to decipher the fundamental principles of cellular life and to understand how the various structures in our cells emerge and carry out diverse cellular functions. By combining state-of-the-art experimental and computational approaches, SCALE develops innovative tools to explore, map, and simulate the inner architecture of cells. This interdisciplinary work expands our understanding of central biological processes and diseases – from bacterial resistance to neurodegenerative disorders. To strengthen the cluster, you should conduct excellent research in one or more of the following areas:
In teaching, the professorships participate in the bachelor's and master's programs in biochemistry, e.g., in cellular biochemistry, protein structure and function, and/or methods of biochemistry. New modules and teaching content are also expressly welcome here. We expect you to have a committed teaching concept that conveys research-oriented, modern biochemistry.
Your Profile
Requirements for appointment include a relevant university degree, a doctorate, publications on research in at least one of the above-mentioned areas in international peer-reviewed journals with a proven impact on the respective field of research, as well as evidence of successful third-party funding from national and, if applicable, international funding bodies.
Requirements for Appointment
Depending on qualifications and experience, the appointment is made to W2 or W3 professorship. In addition to the general provisions of civil service law and a doctorate, further academic achievements (e.g., habilitation, habilitation-equivalent achievements) are required for appointment. The formal hiring requirements are defined in sections 67 and 68 of the Hessian Higher Education Act (Hessisches Hochschulgesetz).
Your Application
Goethe University is an equal opportunity employer, committed to diversity and inclusion. In particular, we are welcoming applications by qualified women and people with a migrant background. At Goethe University, a special emphasis is placed on creating and sustaining a family-friendly work and research environment. Where applicants are otherwise equally qualified, preference is given to candidates with disabilities or equivalent. The same applies to women in fields in which they are under-represented.
To apply, please submit a CV, a list of publications, an overview of your research and teaching activities, a list of your third-party funding, a description of your research and teaching concept, as well as certificates and a selection of current teaching evaluations online at by 18.01.2026. If you are interested in both professorships, please feel free to upload the same application documents twice.
