At the Institute for German as a Foreign Language Philology (IDF) of the Faculty of Modern Languages at Heidelberg University, a position for a
Technician / Lab Manager (f/m/d)
in part-time (50%), (limited to two years for now) is available as early as July 15, 2025 to support the Laboratory for Social Robotics & AI and the Laboratory for Eyetracking at the Language and Cognition Chair. The joint focus of the two laboratories is research on language, cognition, and language acquisition.Your responsibilities:
- Support in setting up the Laboratory for Social Robotics
- Maintenance and development of the lab: methods, AI applications, social robotics
- Implementation of empirical studies with the social robot
- Supervision and advising of students in empirical studies with social robots (or eyetracking)
You bring with you:
- B.Sc.-degree in computer science, computer linguistics, data science and AI or cognitive science or related
- Programming skills, particularly in Python (including interface integration)
- Experience with handling LLMs (e.g., GPT-4) and their API interface
- Basic knowledge in Natural Language Processing (NLP) and dialogue-oriented AI systems
- Ability to integrate multiple technical services and APIs (speech recognition, text-to-speech)
- Ideally, first experience with social robotics
- Willingness to develop skills in the systematic implementation and support of empirical studies
- Good communication skills and willingness to learn new methods and techniques (e.g., eyetracking)
- A cooperative working style, teamwork skills, flexibility, and commitment
- Sensitivity to data protection and ethical requirements when dealing with cloud services and user data
- German and/or English skills
We offer:
- Part-time position (19,75 hours per week) starting in July 15, 2025
- Salary according to pay group TV-L E11
