The Faculty of Medicine at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) invites applications for a
Medizincampus Oberfranken is an innovative collaboration between FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg, Universitätsklinikum Erlangen, Klinikum Bayreuth GmbH, and the University of Bayreuth aimed at establishing clinical and research-based medical training in Bayreuth under the guidance of FAU’s Faculty of Medicine.
We seek to appoint a leading expert with an internationally visible profile in research and teaching. The professor will be responsible for teaching, research, and patient care in general practice at Medizincampus Oberfranken. We expect the successful candidate to become actively involved in establishing medical training and expanding research activities in the area of general practice in interdisciplinary collaboration with colleagues from Medizincampus Oberfranken and from FAU in Erlangen, where a wide range of research associations are based, for instance by participating in clinical and research projects run by the Comprehensive Cancer Center ER-EMN ().
We also expect the professor to provide patient care as a general practitioner.
Candidates should have many years of clinical experience, scientific expertise, and experience in teaching across the whole spectrum of general practice. Successful candidates should demonstrate an excellent academic track record in research and teaching at the highest international standards. They should have substantial research experience abroad and/or international cooperations as well as experience in managing research projects and in raising third-party funding. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree as well as a passion for education and relevant teaching experience are prerequisites. Candidates who are able and willing to teach in both English and German are preferred. The position also requires additional postdoctoral qualifications. These should be in the form of a habilitation (postdoctoral thesis) or equivalent academic qualifications. These qualifications may also have been achieved in a non-university context or through a junior faculty position (for example as Assistant Professor). Candidates must provide evidence of a license to practice medicine in the field of general practice.
The successful candidate should demonstrate academic leadership as well as the ability to support early career researchers and to drive FAU’s strategic agenda. FAU pursues a policy of intense student mentoring and therefore expects its teaching staff to be present during lecture periods.
